What do I need to do to apply for a Scholarship?

You need to do your research! Looking for a scholarship is like going on a treasure hunt. You are not going to find free money lying around. You have to look for it!

TIPS:

• Each scholarship will list "Eligibility Requirements."  Read these and you will know right off the bat if you qualify.
• Check dates for "Deadline for submission."  You cannot submit a scholarship application late - period!
• Check out local scholarships (Alameda/Bay Area) and Encinal only scholarships. Your chances of getting these are much better than national ones!
• Most scholarships will require at least one letter of recommendation. 
• Complete a Brag Sheet (you can find this in College and Career Center link).  Download it and type up your answers.  You can send an electronic copy to a teacher or counselor.  Be sure to save it so you can update and reuse it.
• Most teachers will ask you for your brag sheet, a transcript, and at least two weeks notice to write a letter of recommendation.
• Most scholarship applications are online, but some still have a paper application.  We keep copies of any paper applications in the scholarship binder in the C&C Center.
